Sculpture

Intimately scaled clay sculptures place "paintings" into the palm of the viewer’s hand. Through clay I am exploring a new volume of visual language, an encyclopedia of surface and texture. Using the clay slab as a photographic medium, I capture everyday patterns, pressing the clay into the surfaces that catch my eye. The DNA of my immediate surroundings is embedded into the clay. From this pattern I add paint, beeswax and experiment with stains and glazes to develop the object into a complete painting.  These hand-held paintings and the newer tiles and platters amplify the non-verbal in surface and texture.
